Cheryl Cole Supports Malaria Vaccine by WENN | 08 October 2013 Picture: Cheryl Cole - Cheryl Cole arrives at Los Angeles International Airport on a flight from London - Los Angeles, CA, United States - Thursday 15th... British pop star Cheryl Cole has thrown her support behind plans to market the world's first malaria vaccine following her fight with the disease.

The singer cheated death and spent days in an intensive care unit in July, 2010 after contracting the mosquito-borne illness during a charity trip to Tanzania. She has now spoken out to show her backing for bosses at pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, who are currently seeking regulatory approval to manufacture the world's first malaria vaccine after trial results proved it dramatically reduced the number of cases in African children. Cole took to Twitter.com to post a link to an article on the vaccine and to share her support, writing, "Oh my god. I pray that this works out!! Please god." Malaria kills hundreds of thousands of victims every year.

Africa Kicks Malaria

AFRICA KICKS MALARIA:

HOW SOCCER STARS ARE OUTSCORING MALARIA

Last summer the Confederation of African Football, or CAF, (think FIFA, but African) endorsedUnited Against Malaria partnership - of which Malaria No More is a key member - as a premier social cause of the most-followed events in Africa: the 2013 Cup of Nations (AFCON) soccer tournament.
The most revered champions of Africa’s best loved sport talking about malaria during Africa’s most watched public events? A captive audience of 6.6 billion people, most of them living in malaria-endemic Africa? What could be more captivating!
The biggest names in African football (that’s ‘soccer’ to you, U.S. followers) and the top political leaders in Africa’s malaria fight signed onto the campaign, and lent their time to record public messages about malaria for their African audience.  These include five elite footballers and five African presidents, including football legends Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o, and the first-ever female African head of state, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.   TV, radio ads, and billboards were created which feature the players and presidents, targeting policy-makers and decision makers about investments in malaria programs, as well promoting calls-to-action with simple steps to prevent and treat malaria.

To ensure these malaria messages are heard by football fanatics continent-wide, 10 pan-African TV/radio stations, including the biggest radio station in Africa and the official football tournament channel, advertisements in over 10 countries, and 75 billboards in more than 13 countries are helping get the job done.
In addition to the tremendous media support, the campaign launched at the African Union Summit to include more African Heads of State, and a TV spot about the campaign aired during the AFCON Draw and East Africa CECAFA tournament. During the AFCON games, the campaign will be included during AFCON half-times (when football fans are already tuned into watch their favorite footballers), in AFCON sportscasters’ dialogue during televised games, and at the AFCON Final Game’s closing ceremony?

In2Care Mosquito Trap

In2Trap outside view

A revolutionairy tool to combat dengue mosquitoes!
The In2Care Mosquito Trap is a unique mosquito control concept that integrates a novel trap
with a customer-focused service component. The trap, which attracts mosquitoes ready to lay
eggs, uses novel and green alternatives to insecticides, and is the first to
exploit the concept of  autodisseminationbased on the unique egg-laying
behaviour of the dengue mosquito. Moreover, it is also the first trap to use a
biological control agent that kills mosquitoes 8-10 days after becoming infected inside the trap.
This agent, once inside the mosquito, also inhibits development of the dengue virus.
This means that after being contaminated it can carry a larvicide for 8-10 days to other
breeding sites, which results not only in all larvae being killed inside the trap itself
but also in the surroundings breeding sites. The attractiveness of the trap is enhanced
through its size, colour and addition of specific odours. The service component consists
of easy and quick to use refills (biocontrol agents and odours) that allow effective trap
maintenance at 1-2 month intervals. Traps can be placed both in- and outdoors at a
recommended density of 1/400 m2 . The In2Trap concept lends itself perfectly or use
by pest control companies that offer mosquito control services to resorts, hotels, restaurants, etc.
